BOSTON CELTICS HALL OF FAME COACH RED AUERBACH 1963







 

The coach, who led the Celtics to eight straight National Basketball Association championships -- nine overall, was known for lighting a cigar as his team neared victory. He kept this tradition alive, even after he left the sidelines in 1966 for the front office. He would peer down on games from a box seat in the Garden, often puffing away.

Became the first ever coach to select a black player in the NBA draft when he selected Chuck Cooper in the 2nd round of the 1950 NBA draft.

In 1963, became the first NBA coach to start five black players in a game when he started Sam Jones, K.C. Jones, Tom Sanders, Willie Naulls, and Bill Russell



My dad was a pro sports photographer who had accumulated nearly 30 career awards for his sports pictures before retiring in 1976 with great honors. You will receive one 5" X 7", black & white, duplicate photograph.

Dad would sometimes make one or two more larger prints as contest entries (he won nearly 30 career awards for this sports photos before retiring in the mid-1970s to great local fan-fare and media attention).
