TODAYS ITEM FOR AUCTION IS: large bound volume of the Evening Bulletin of San Francisco, Oct 9th 1877 to April 9th 1878. Covers attached to each other newspapers are are hanging inside in two thick blocks. Covers are poor condition. Paper is brittle and all three sides top, front edge and bottom are rolled a bit and have tears and dog-earred and worn sections. Some of the very front and very back pages have larger tears from handling without the support of the covers. If you can get by all of that, you will have a very interesting accounting of history from San Francisco about the city, state and nation at the time. From the small historical bytes of info on buildings being finished to fanfair, banks failing to the larger issues concerning the world. Some news of Indian fighting, death of Harry Meiggs, speech by Mark Twain, discovery of quinine, PT Barnum tells his side of the Cardif Giant, mining news, Sutro Tunnel and so much more. If it happened between these dates most likely there will be coverage of it in the paper. Tons of tibits that are the makings of articals, stories, adventure reading.
