You are bidding on NINE RETIRED BEARS from The Boyds Collection Ltd. Standing in back is 904394, Jasmine Lefleur an 8 inch snow white bear with white velvet paw pads. Jasmine is from The Head Bean Boyds Best Dressed Series and is wearing a pink and lilac print romper with lilac trim and matching ear bow. Jasmine was issued in the spring of 2005 and has since been retired. She is in NEW in MINT CONDITION with her original The Head Bean Collection paper hang tag and blue sewn in tush tag dated 2004, she has never been displayed and was removed from her plastic bag for the first time today to photograph for this auction. In the second row, from left to right these are No. 5151-03, Bromley Q. Bear an 8 inch gold medium chenille bear with gold paw pads and black stitched “bear claws” from the J. B. Bean and Associates Series. Bromley comes with his original wide blue and beige plaid neck bow, original J. B. Bean and Associates paper hang tag and blue sewn in tush tag dated 1998. Bromley was only available to retailers for one year he was issued in 1998 and retired in 1999. He is in absolutely MINT CONDITION including his paper hang tag, it is difficult to tell that this bear is 10 years old!!! Next is No. 918055, Clark S. Bearhugs. Clark is a 6 inch chocolate brown bear with beige paw pads and black stitched claws, who comes from Boyds T. J. Best Dressed Archive Series. Clark is wearing a red velvet romper with a Boyds Bears BearWear tag sewn on the front. Clark was only available to retailers for one year he was issued in 2000 and retired at the end of the year. Clark comes with his original Archive Collection paper hang tag and blue sewn in tush tag dated 1999. Unfortunately there is a small spot on the front of the Archive tag where some of the printing is missing, I would guess this is from the careless removal of the original price tag. If this is a concern to interested bidders I will be happy to send a picture of the tag. Other than this spot on the tag Clark is in perfect condition. The third bear is No. 918054 Ashley Huntington a 6 inch gold medium chenille bear with gold paw pads and black stitched claws. Ashley is wearing a bulky knit fall-colored cardigan sweater that closes at the neck with a Boyds Bear paw print button. Like Bromley, Ashley is from the J. B. Bean Series and is in MINT CONDITION. He is complete with his original J. B. Bean and Associates and round Boyds Bears BearWear paper hang tags and blue sewn in tush tag dated 1998 (since Ashley wasn’t issued until 1999 his tush tag indicates that this particular bear was among the first of the series to be produced.) Ashley was retired in 2001. Once again it is very difficult to believe that a bear in this quality condition is 10 years old!!!! The next member of the auction is also from the J. B. Bean and Associates Series and is in MINT CONDITION this is No.5840-05, Humboldt. Humboldt is a 6 inch brown “big ear” Grizzly Bear with brown leather paw pads. Humboldt is wearing a brown leather collar decorated with gold studs and a gold buckle. His blue sewn in Boyds tush tag is dated 1998. Humboldt was issued in 1996 and retired in 2002. He is complete with his with his original J. B. Bean and Associates and round Boyds Bears BearWear paper hang tags and is in every way MINT! Seated in the front row from left to right is an unidentified 7 ½ inch brown bear with beige paw pads and black stitched claws. This guy is wearing a wide gossamer burgundy neck ribbon and has an unusual look for a Boyds Bear, his ear sit high on his head and stick straight up, giving him a surprised look (maybe he didn’t know he was going to be in an auction!!!) Although I have not been able to identify this bear I believe he was produced as part of a Yesterday’s Child Doll set. He has lost his paper hang but does have a blue Boyds sewn in tush tag dated 1998 and is in perfect condition. Next is No 5707, a new face Neville. Neville is a 6 ½ inch nutmeg-colored chenille bear with cream colored paw pads and black stitched claws. Neville is wearing a burgundy neck ribbon, although I believe it to be a replacement ribbon and unfortunately he too has lost his paper hang tag. This new face version of Neville was issued in 1991 and retired in 1999. Beside Neville is No. 5619 Snowbeary a is 5 inch plush ornament with red satin ribbon hanger. Snowbeary’s blue sewn in tush tags dated 1995. He comes with his original red satin neck ribbon and original round Boyds Bears BearWear paper hang tag. Snowbeary was issued in 1995 and retired in 1996, it’s hard to believe that was 13 years ago!!! The final bear in this auction is No 5706, an old face Thatcher with white tush tag dated 1990. Thatcher is a 5 ½ inch snow white bear with white paw pads and black claws. The Thatcher series was issued in 1990 and although the Thatcher series did not retire until 1997, this version was probably not produced after 1993. Since The Boyds Collection used the white 1990 tags on some of their 1990 to 1993 Archive Bears it is impossible to determine Thatcher’s exact age without his missing paper hang tag but a safe estimate would be that he is at least 15 years old!!! Thatcher comes with a narrow satin neck ribbon which may or may not be original. I purchased all of these bears except Jasmine on the secondary market several years ago their former owners assured me that they all came from a non-smoking environment. Since I cannot detect any smoke or other odors I have no reason to doubt this. Since they have been in my possession they have all been completely smoke free and in storage. (Jasmine has always been completely smoke free.) Although they were purchased on secondary market they appear to be in EXCELLENT TO MINT CONDITION. These retired Boyds Bears are offered with a low opening bid far below their retail value.
