**BPS Paint & Nisoron Varnish Porcelain Flange Sign**

Up for auction is this classic, porcelain, flanged sign advertising two different products manufactured by The Patterson-Sargent Company. One side depicts a suited man peering into a one gallon can of BPS “outside gloss white” paint advising you to “Look Into It”. The opposite side advertises BPS Nisoron interior finishing Varnish and declares it “Won’t Turn White”. BPS stands for “Best Paint Sold”. The sign measures 20” tall x 14” wide and is from the 1920s-1930s era.

As you can see, there are very few porcelain chips within the face of the sign…the ones that are there are mostly BB size. The photos make it appear as if there is little porcelain left on the flange but that is not true. While it is not perfect, instead of just touching up the particular areas, someone painted over the entire portion with a flat black. This will clean off with either a polishing compound or paint remover. Though some of the missing porcelain around the perimeter is actually chipped, I think the majority of loss is due to surface rust flake. It would be my guess that this piece languished for many, many years before anyone gave it the attention it deserved. The colors are excellent…dark black, snow white and pumpkin orange. The gloss has a nice reflective shine with minor, light scratching. Pictures do the best job of explaining the condition so please study carefully. Overall this sign, 70-80 years old, is still in great condition and displays very well. Most of the flaws are overlooked from even a short distance away. A little touch-up here and there would make a tremendous difference.

I will use USPS Mail unless you specify another courier or additional services.  If USPS Mail is unacceptable, please advise within 24 hours of auction end. Insurance is required for the sake of both buyer and seller and will be included in the final shipping fee on your invoice. My estimate for insurance is 5-$10 (depends on final value). I have no real idea what it will cost to mail to your location so this too will be decided at auction's end once the sign is boxed and I know your zip code. The package will likely weigh 8-13 pounds. A very, very rough guess for postage and insurance is $20-$35.....this is not a quote. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY PAYMENT UNTIL YOU RECEIVE AN INVOICE. I will do my best to send your package out on a week day however, due to my work schedule, it is highly likely the soonest I can mail is the first Saturday after auction ends.
