are not all solidwood.

 

That’s the reason why they are lighter and less expensive.

 

 

 

It is one of the most important Portuguese traditional musical instruments.

Because of its diminutive size it was easily taken on journeys and during the 15th century it reached Africa, the Americas and even Hawaii, where it became the four-stringed ukulele. In the northern regions of Latin America it became know as the cuatro.
