THE FINEST COLLECTION OF BRASS RUBBINGS
THESE BRASS RUBBINGS REPRESENT HISTORICAL MEDIEVAL ARTWORK
creativity, hard work and attention to detail

THE PURPOSE IS PERFECTION
the goal is worldwide

THIS IS NOT A PRINT.
Each Brass Rubbing is a hand made original.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORIGINS AND ART OF BRASS RUBBINGS
THESE RUBBING'S REPRESENT ART HISTORY, DURING THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD

Monumental Brasses were crafted by silversmiths and stonemasons during the Middle Ages,
and became the height of fashion in Europe between 1280-1650.
They were 'pictures' of actual people, and show the customs, etc.of the period.
To make a rubbing we stretch rag paper over the engraved plate,
& use metallic wax compound's to rub the image.

This is a hand made rubbing of The Celtic Circle created with metallic gold  and forest green wax  compounds on a special black rag paper. A design from a page of the gospel of St. Matthew in the Book of Kells, probably the most splendid early Medieval illuminated manuscript still surviving. This design consists of five interlacing birds and ten reptiles or serpents with topknots and tails. The design is 8 1/2 inches in diameter and the paper measures 15" X 15" to allow for matting and framing.

I will send it to you in a strong mailing tube, together with a copy of The Historical Notes, published by The London Brass Rubbing Centre, which not only details the dates and origin of this plate but also all the other plates in their unique and fascinating collection

The engraving from which this rubbing was taken is from an exhibition featured at The Washington National Cathedral by The London Brass Rubbing Centre and has more recently been on a National tour as part of their brass rubbing workshop. Rubbings like this one, hand made by one of their master craft instructors, make unusual and interesting gifts. I will send it to you rolled up in a strong postal tube. It can be hung either from wooden dowels or matted and framed under glass. Shipping and handling charges include insurance cover during transit. I would be pleased to offer a combined shipping price if you decide to order more than one rubbing from our collection and they can be rolled in the same mailing tube.

I welcome you to my ebay store
