Despite the prevailing opinion that young women don't get breast cancer, the reality is that they can and they do. One in every 229 women between the ages of 30 and 39 will be diagnosed within the next 10 years. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in young women ages 15-54. More than 11,100 women under the age 40 will be diagnosed this year, and more than 1,100 will die.

Brighton Triples Efforts to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Awareness

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 10, 2007) - Brighton - the accessories manufacturer that has donated nearly $2 million to breast cancer charities since 2003 - has announced that, in the 5th year of their annual Power of Pink promotion to support breast cancer charities, they are tripling their efforts to protect the women we all hold precious. They are introducing not one or two pieces of jewelry as in past years - but three new pieces of jewelry to raise money for the charities.

Brighton's limited edition Power of Pink necklace, bracelet and earrings will be available from September 29 to October 31, 2007 at participating retailers nationwide. The company has pledged to donate $5 for each $50 necklace and bracelet sold to breast cancer awareness organizations. For each $34 earrings sold, Brighton will donate $2.50.

Brighton is encouraging the 2,000 specialty stores that will be selling the jewelry to match the company's donations by giving to a breast cancer charity of their choosing. The company's 115 Brighton's Collectibles stores also will match the donations, bringing the total to $10 on each Power of Pink necklace and bracelet and $5 on each pair of earrings. Anyone can be diagnosed with this disease - not only the elderly and middle-aged, but thousands of women in their 20s and 30s. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 240,510 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2007; 11,100 under age 40. Each year, 40,000 women die of breast cancer - 1,100 are under 40 years old.
