Estimated budget $7.5 million; shot in Technicolor and Panavision; the film's aspect ratio is 1.85: 1.
Based on the Great Train Robbery of 1963. England's Royal Mail train was robbed that year while making the run between London and Glasgow. It is estimated that in today's figures the goods the bandits stole would be worth in excess of $35 million. What truly made the crime legendary was the fact that it was carried out by a group of unarmed men. Only one of the wrongdoers escaped punishment, Ronnie Biggs. He fled to Brazil and has lived in exile there for years. But this is not his story; it's the tale of Ronnie "Buster" Edwards, a member of the gang who made it to Mexico, free and clear, only to return to London to turn himself in years later.
Daniel Lopez was the director of photography in Mexico.
Phil Collins made his film debut in the 1964 Beatles film "A Hard Day's Night."
The British cut of "Buster" runs 102 minutes, while the American cut runs 93 minutes.
Editorial reviews
"...Easygoing and affectionate....[Collins] is good enough to make audiences temporarily forget his career as a pop star..." New York Times - p.C12 - Janet Maslin
