David Estey is a Registered Piano Technician with the Piano Technicians Guild.

This is an INFORMATION product to help you to make an informed decision on your eventual purchase of an upright piano. Believe it or not, I have had people think they are buying the piano in the picture for $2.99, and ask if it comes with a free tuning and free nationwide shipping, and if I could do better on the price. I kid you not. (if you have ever sold on e bay, you are chuckling right now, arent you?)

At $2.99 I am obviously not looking to get wealthy on this information product. The $ is to cover my insertion fees, e bay fees, paypal fees etc... and certainly dosent cover the time I spend with everyone who buys it. So, why do I do it?

I am a piano tuner, and see way too many people purchase pianos totally uninformed, thinking they are getting a "good deal" until I break the news that the piano needs hundreds and more often thousands of dollars to repair. What breaks my heart is that those who cant afford much waste the little they have on something "cheap" rather than something of good value.

There is no need to "go it alone". I would like to help you in any way I can. 32 years as a piano tuner and restoration expert buying and selling used and new pianos is only a click or two away. If you are dissatisfied in any way with the information I give you, I will give you a full refund. You have nothing to loose and a ton of pertinent information to gain.

oh, and one more thing before we start:

THIS IS NOT A PIANO FOR SALE. THIS IS AN INFORMATION PRODUCT.

I have pianos for sale in my e bay store.

BUYING A USED UPRIGHT PIANO?

QUESTIONS YOU NEED TO ASK!

I am giving you the questions for FREE. Ask the seller these questions, and jot down the answers. For $2.99, I will e mail you a document with a description of what the answers mean, and what work (if any) you can expect to do with the piano should you decide to go ahead and purchase it.

As an added value, I will personally review the information gathered, and give you my professional advice via e mail and or phone.

PIANO BUYING QUESTIONS

1.  What is the brand name on the piano?

2.  How tall is the upright piano from the floor to the top?

3.  How old is the piano?  Do you have the serial number?  Did you buy it used?  How long have you owned it?

4.  Where has the piano been stored? Living Room? Basement? Garage? Porch?

5.  When was it last tuned? One year? Two? Over 5? Over 10?

6.  Has the piano had any major work? When was it done?  By whom?

7.  Do all the keys work?

8.  Describe the furniture. Style, Color, condition. Does it come with a bench?  Is it ornate with carvings?

9.  Are there stairs involved to move the piano out of its present location?  How many? Any turns, twist or landings?

10. What is included in the price? Delivery? Guarantee? Tuning after delivery?

Want to know what the answers mean in actual dollars?  Click on “Buy it Now” and for $2.99, you will have a much more information than you do now on the piano you are considering.

Money Back Guarantee

If, for any reason, you feel this was not worth the $2.99, I will refund your money, no questions asked.

You have nothing to loose, and a ton of relevant information to gain to make an intelligent, informed decision.

These questions are those a professional dealer or tuner would ask before taking the time and expense of inspecting it, much less buying it. Nine out of ten times, the answers to these questions will determine whether or not the piano is worth buying, as they reveal what the piano needs in additional work to bring it to respectable playing condition, if it needs any work at all.

ON A LOW BUDGET?

These questions are also PRICELESS if you are on a low budget – the last thing you want to do is buy a piano that you THINK is being offered at a good price, when it will need HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in restoration to meet your piano playing goals.

On the other hand, there are pianos that are worth investing thousands of dollars in to restore, and others that will need minimum service. The answers to these questions will be of great assistance it helping you determine the facts BEFORE you buy.

Example:

Question #5. When was the piano last tuned?  One Year? Five Years? Over Ten?

If the answer is over 2 years, chances are the piano needs what we call a pitch raise, or pitch correction. Even if a piano has not been played, humidity changes will drop the pitch of the tuning, very often turning your A into an A flat. You can expect to pay for 2 tunings instead of one, after you buy it and have it delivered. Generally the fee for this service ranges from $200.00-$270.00 and may also indicate that there are other components of the piano that need attention – all of which is described in the document I will send you.

The answer to this question also reveals how well the piano has been maintained over the years. When you combine the information gathered in other questions, such as where it has been stored, you can determine the effects and costs of the neglect, and thereby determine how much you are willing to pay for such a piano, or whether you are willing to buy it at
