A very easy to knit diaper cover. Use 100% 2-ply wool (or use 1-ply wool double strand), or a yarn with at least 75% wool. Instructions are given for two sizes: Small size fits to approximately 6 months;
Large size fits to approximately 12 months
The above pictures show the finished soaker; it is a one-piece construction, starting at the back waist, and finishing at the front waist. The last picture shows the leg ribbing applied.
Materials:
Knitting needles size US 7 (4.5 mm) & US 9 (5.5 mm)
Approximately 3.5 oz (100 g) 2-ply or double knit on 1-ply wool
Gauge over stockinet stitch with size 7 needles: 10 sts x 14 rows = 2 inches (5 cm)
Care instructions for a wool diaper cover:
Air-dry a damp diaper cover after use. Rinse off any stains with plain water.
Use a wool-washing liquid soap and wash in luke warm water.
Add a few drops of white vinegar to the rinse water to soften the diaper cover.
Roll the diaper cover in a towel to remove excess water and dry flat.
Do not use regular detergent as it will make the wool stiff and hard.
The diaper cover needs to be washed only every few changes with regular air drying in between.
