“Balto” Hero Sled Dog of Serum Run
The picture you are looking at is a beautiful sepia toned digitally enhanced reproduction of “Balto” and team with driver, Gunnar Kasaan. Balto was the leader of the sled dog team which carried the antitoxin serum of the last lap of the race from Nenana to Nome. The original photograph was taken on Front Street in Nome, Alaska shortly after the arrival of the antitoxin serum in 1925.

The original photograph was digitally restored by removing all damage resulting from the ravages of time such as cracks, tears, stains, yellowing, fading, blemishes from mold, etc. Certain aspects of the original photograph were then enhanced to give this reproduction a rich and clear quality that did not exist in the original picture due to the limitations of the photographic process and equipment in the early 20th century. The quality of this reproduction exceeds that of the original image in clarity, tonal range, and richness.
This 8" x 10" photograph is packaged in an acid free large clear envelope and shipped flat in a protective photo mailer.
