One of the most beautiful clumping bamboos, its very straight erect culms turn highly polished chocolate black with age, with occasional stripes of green. The shoots are edible. Grows well in full sun and harsh conditions. minimum temperature:  26 F
maximum height: 70 feet
maximum diameter: 4 inches
