Barbados is well-known as a destination that caters to tourists. It is a country of natural caverns, exquisite beaches and flower forests. Walking and hiking combine with golf, tennis and fishing as favorite activities on the island. The nearby, busy city of Speightstown is one of many popular highlights, as are the estates and ornate plantation homes of the countryside. Coral reefs along the shoreline provide wonderful opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving.
And, of course the sunshine is plentiful !
...Now is your opportunity to take a tropical break in a charming 1790's Historic Plantation House. Make your reservations now !!! * (...The Mill House is listed with the Barbados National Tourist Development Board...)
* A LITTLE ABOUT THE MILL HOUSE:*
This is a secure, other-worldly, get-away-from-it-all oasis on the Friendly Hall Estate in the secluded St. Lucy's parish in northern Barbados... You will be able to look out at night at the dreamy Southern sky, and enjoy the incredibly lush, healing trade winds blowing across the veranda from the Atlantic to the Caribbean.
The Mill House, newly renovated and fully furnished, was built in the 1790’s. It is a charming private residence with the ambience of a French country house, located on the secluded Friendly Hall sugar plantation estate in St. Lucy's, which also happens to be the least commercialized parish in Barbados. The open floor plan of this 1,800 sq. ft., coral-and-limestone structure is inviting, with high ceilings, unique French-louvered shutters and doors, gracious living and dining areas, each with its own delightful patio/courtyard; and it is surrounded by open fields with views of the sea. The original Mill Tower – a national historic landmark - is on the 1-acre property and is bordered by palm trees, spider lilies, and brilliantly colored frangiapani and bougainvillea.
Location:
The residence is just 1/4 mile from the sea. The tranquil West Coast beaches are all public, and are marked with blue-and-white access signs - with free parking. If you love surfing and snorkeling, just walk a couple hundred meters to Maycock’s Bay… an excellent beach. Mullins Beach, one of the finest on Barbados, is a 10-minute drive. And in nearby Speightstown, off the beach at Cobbler’s Cove, you can swim with the endangered leatherback and green turtles – an enchanting experience.
Speightstown, the capital of St. Lucy’s Parish, is a market town dating from the 18th century. About a 10-minute drive from the Mill House, the town offers a well-stocked supermarket, open-air markets with local produce, banks with ATM's, gourmet restaurants, art studios, live music, nightlife and more. Fisherman sell their fresh catch most afternoons in a small fishing community called "Six Men's," located along the coastal road from the Mill House to Speightstown.
Holetown, about 10 minutes south of Speightstown, boasts world-class gourmet food and wine shops, boutique shopping and an abundance of excellent restaurants. Golf, tennis, boat rentals, water sports, snorkeling, glass-bottom boats and more are available up and down the West Coast - commonly referred to as the ‘Platinum Coast.'
