Marvelous original 19th Century lithograph - caricature for the
magazine Vanity Fair by HAY.
The original Vanity Fair January 4, 1890 text has been attached
to the back of the lithograph. It reads:
Vanity Fair - London, June 15, 1889
Statesmen - No. DLXVII
Baron Ferdinand James de Rothschild, M.P.
"The second son of Baron Anselm Rothschild of Vienna, he came
to England to learn business in New Court thirty years ago, when
he soon became so enamoured of England and English life and English
pursuits that he made up his mind to stay with us. Accordingly he
became a naturalized Englishman, and is now the Liberal Unionist
Member of Parliament for Aylesbury Division of Bucks. He dabbles
in literature, writes articles in magazines, makes many speeches
in Aylesury, and has once or twice ventured to make on e in the
House of Commons. He lectures to the rustics in Bucks, and in one
short month was more applauded in Toynbee Hall, when he spoke to
the Radicals about the French Revolutin, than he was when he addressed
Royalty at Sandringham on Queen Elizabeth. He has built a French
castle on the hill at Waddesdon, where he has acres of glass devoted
to the cultivation of orchids, and more acres of canvas painted
upon by Reynolds and Gainsborough. He is a very hospitable man,
speaks all languages, and keeps an excellent French cook; but his
butler does not allow his guests to drink his best wines."

weas done in January 30, 1869 of Benjamin Disraeli and the tradition
continued through to the eve of WWI, January 1914. The top artists
of the day worked on a series of portraits that of notables of the
day, that includes some of the finest caricatures ever drawn.
