Basic Roleplaying is an introductory roleplaying game for beginners by Greg Stafford and Lynn Willis.  It features an excellent, time-tested game system, easily understood rules, many examples of play, and a fun introductory scenario.

This is a short universal system, although as originally published it only supported fantasy or early history. The original booklet was intended as an introduction for beginners to Chaosium's RuneQuest, Call of Cthulhu, and Stormbringer games which used roughly the same system. Basic Role Playing is a percentile skill system: roll under skill(0-100) on percentile dice, or roll on the 'resistance table' for attribute (3-18) vs. difficulty. Character creation is random-roll attributes. In the introductory booklet, skills are fixed but can be improved with experience..
