WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA AMISH MADE BASKET QUILT
In 1982 I attended a Quilt auction in western Pennsylvania. This was a quilt made by the amish to pay the medical bills of an amish child who had meningitis. The Amish women were in attendance and when the quilt sold for the higest price at the sale, the amish, who show no expression of emotion in public, had tears running down their faces. I purchased that quilt and it has never been washed or used. This is from my own personal quilt collection over many years and it is time to downsize and I must with heavy heart, let it go. I am not an expert, just absolutely love quilts and the stories associated with their origin. I have collected quilts over many years and this is one that I would call perfect. The basket points are sharp and perfect. Handstitching is absolutely beautiful, small and perfect. Swirl Feathers and square feathered medallions are quilted in between the baskets. The quilt is in perfect/excellent condition. It is large in Size = 82" x 105". This is truely a beautiful piece of Western Pennsylvania Amish Art.
