History of Pennsylvania Volunteers
Bates History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers 1861-1865, Volumes 1 thru 5

A Searchable PDF Publication on CD
History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers 1861-1865, Volumes 1 thru 5 :Volume 1 has two color frontis illustrations, Volume 2 has one, and the other volumes have one black and white frontis each. Volume 1 has an additional folding map after the preface.   All maps and Sketches are full size and in color as presented in the original volumes.
The main body of the volumes consists of lists of the volunteers arranged by unit with details; name, date of muster and other salient information. Without doubt, a striking five-volume set and a important contribution to the literature of the American Civil War.
Bates History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers is the most comprehensive set of volumes ever created on the men from Pennsylvania who served in the Civil War. If you have an ancestor who served in PA in this time period, you will find him here. Each regiment listing includes a history of the unit broken down into individual companies and soldiers. Information  includes name, rank, date of muster into service, length of service, and remarks that can include discharge date, transfers, desertions, promotions with date, death date and place, burial date and place, and many other tidbits valuable to the genealogical researcher. Also includes all colored regiments.

These disks contain images of every page of the original five volumes of one of the most valuable genealogy resources available. Reprints of these books will cost hundreds of dollars and the complete set (if found available) much more. In contrast, the CD version weighs one-half ounce, is easier to search and is available for a far more affordable price.

About Our CDs
Unlike many of our competitors most of our CDs are composed of collections of multiple texts and documents concentrating on a specific region or subject area.  Many contain 5, 10, even 20 separate publications - each individually worth many times the cost of the CD.  Each CD is truly a reference BONANZA to the family historian with thousands of pages of research information - all complete copies of the originals.  The age of most of these text make them inaccessible to the average researcher.  Naturally their scarcity and fragility makes them very expensive to acquire, for historical societies, libraries and individuals. When they are acquired they are often kept under lock and key in an effort to preserve them. Unfortunately this also makes them unavailable for research. Our CDs contain exact electronic copies of each text as described. They are produced by scanning the actual pages of the original text making them not only excellent resources but archival copies available for future generations. If you could find a hard copy of any of these books it would cost hundreds of dollars. The average cost of a single CD, containing our "theme or regional" based collections has been kept affordable in an effort to make this information obtainable to as many home researchers as possible.
Our CDs have become the ultimate research tool. Having a copy on hand allows research at your leisure and your schedule while in the comfort of your home. Additionally you can still print individual or groups of pages as you need directly from your CDs.  Giving you the best of both old and new research techniques.  Unless otherwise noted most pdf Files are now searchable.  Searchable pdf files allow single or multiple file searches with one search request.  For further information on searchable pdf files, their accuracy rate and production process, please refer to our main site Web Site.
The CDs are designed around a central menu which opens much like a web page (utilizing your browser and a link like navigation system.)  This makes them easy to navigate and extremely user friendly,  even for those new at computer research.  The only requirement is that you have the most current Adobe Reader version available for your operating system.   Adobe'e newest version of Adobe Reader is 7.0.   If you need to update it is available as a free download at adobe.com.  CDs work with both major operating systems  -- Windows and MAC OSX

This CD-ROM uses Adobe Acrobat reader.
If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader it is provided, Free of charge, on every CD.
