Seller's descriptionA rare modernist table light designed by Karl Trabert for Schanzenbach & Co, 1933 A famous icon of functionalist design, from the circle of Gropius, Dell, Breuer et al. Steel and enamelled metal base with enamelled metal shade and painted wooden handle. The lamp is adjustable - the upright pivots backwards and forwards at the base. Relatively little is known about its designer Trabert, aside from the fact as a co-contributor to the famous periodical Das Neue Frankfurt, he moved in the circle of Christian Dell, Walter Gropius, Marianne Brandt, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Marcel Breuer and the other Bauhaus designers. Because of its pure functionalist aesthetic the lamp has become an icon of Bauhaus design and is much sought-after by collectors. The lamp, which dates from the 1930s or 1940s, is in very good vintage condition with only minor traces of age and use. There are a few very minor marks on the top of the shade and expected patination to the steel upright, both consistent with age. As you can see the lamp does works and has been rewired at some point (it has a continental 2-pin plug); please see note about all vintage electrical items below. The bulb holder appears to have been strengthened by a previous owner. Height approx 46cm. The diameter of the shade is 33cm. Now you can sign up for a regular e-mail bulletin detailing my latest finds and offers by adding me to your list of favourite sellers. The e-mail is free, eBay system generated (so your e-mail address remains private) and you can unsubscribe at any time. Payment and Postage Paypal is accepted and I do not add a surcharge to cover their fees. UK buyers only may also pay by cheque or postal order. If it's a cheque, please allow 7 to 10 days for it to clear. It may be possible for overseas customers to pay by another means such as bank transfer in £GBP by prior arrangement. All buyers please make contact within 3 days of auction. Payment is required within 7 days. Non-payment All non-paying bidders are, without exception, reported to eBay. This is not for the sake of being vindictive, but because eBay charges retrospective fees calculated on the actual sale price of items and this money needs to be retrieved. Believe me it is becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet on here as it is! Thank you for your understanding. Please refer to eBay's policy on non-payment for more information, including its ramifications for the bidder. If you have any doubts, please do ask before bidding. Condition of items Please note that, unless clearly stated otherwise, my listings are for vintage/antique objects and therefore, by definition, are not going to be in the same condition you would expect from a brand new item. Please be assured that I always endeavour to offer the most accurate description possible of the item's condition and take multiple illustrative photographs. Vintage electrical items Unless explicitly stated otherwise in the description, vintage electrical items are always sold in their original condition so should always be safety checked by a qualified electrician (in the country of intended use) before use. Returns Returns may be made, if reported within 7 days and by prior arrangement only, if a mistake has been made in the listing and the item is not as described, but for no other reason. I'm afraid that straightforward buyer's remorse does not qualify and the cost of return postage is not included in any refund. Please don't hesitate to e-mail me to ask any questions not covered above; I always answer as quickly as possible. Thanks very much for taking the time to read this and best of luck with your bidding!
