Beautiful, working, prewar Silvertone bakelite radio. The unit is a nice as can be found, in the original box, original instructions and all paperwork- this is the closest experience you will have to being like the original purchaser. The design dates to the 1940/41 and to collectors is referred to as the "Candycane" (due to dial design). Sears Roebuck called this model, "The Commentator". Silvertone was the house brand for Sears Roebuck. All of the six tubes are the original Silvertone brand, and all test new having little to no use. Excellent luster, a medium chocholate bakelite in color with subtle swirls of lighter and darker shades- no cracks or chips in cabinet, photo shows reflections of the backdrop blanket (in addition to the vertical faces and the dial scale), there is no marring. Impeccibly clean, inside and out, it will pass the white glove test. Unit has original knobs,, pushbutton covers, pushbuttons, and grille cloth. The set plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum. Has good, safe, power cord and working dial light. It measures 12 inches long, 6 high, 5 deep. As with all my radios, the luster and sheen on the bakelite is natural, exhibiting the original characteristics of the bakelite when newly made....no coatings (permanent or temporary), sprays, or oils are used to glam it up. All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future...as they do when you first get them. I stand behind the components I've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days. After that- free labor for 6 months. Why would you bother with someone who says they've "restored" the radio and then tell you you are buying "as is"? The insides of my radios are given the same attention as the outsides.
