Seller's description

This listing is for an excellent antique reproduction of a 11" Kestner 171 Daisyette. She is beautifully painted by Connie Zink and was made from a head mold by Jean Nordquist.  This doll will be an excellant addition to your Bleuette family.  She is on a paper mache Bleuette body from Global Dolls.  She has blue glass eyes, mohair upper eyelashes. a blonde mohair wig, and four teeth that were carved in the porcelain head. Wooden base doll stand is also included.

Her costume is a reproduction of a Daisy Debut Dress, a two-piece white chemise with light blue trim and buttons. Costume is complete with white slip and underwear with lace, cotton socks, and black leather Mary Jane shoes. Dress is a replica of one of the dresses shown in the March 1911 Ladies Home Journal.

About the Antique Doll: This sweet face child doll is made by the German doll company of Kestner around 1911. This is the mold that was used for Daisy, The Doll That Came to Life from Ladies Home Journal. Only the 18” size was used for “Daisy”. The Ladies Home Journal had been running Sheila Young's paper doll pages of Lettie Lane and her family since October 1908. Lettie Lane had a doll named Daisy. Then someone at the Journal had a marvelous promotion idea: they would offer a real Daisy doll as a premium to little girls who sold three subscriptions to the Ladies Home Journal. Daisy was offered in the March 1911 Journal; the caption read: "Lettie Lane Presents Her Most Beautiful Doll to Every Little Journal Girl." The little girls would send in three names and $4.50 and they would receive Daisy free. She was described as a fine bisque doll with lovely golden curls and real hair eyelashes: she had pearly white enameled teeth, and cheeks as pink as roses. Just 18" tall, she was a fully ball jointed doll. The Journal had originally ordered 5,000 dolls but by the end of the promotion they had ordered a total of 26,000 dolls.  This great demand for the doll doubtless accounts for the fact that dolls by several makers included Heinrich/Handwerck and Kestner were used.  This listing is for an 11" Kestner not the 18" Size.

About the Artist: Connie Zink started Land of Oz Dolls in Savanna, Illinois in January of 1979. After signing up for a porcelain doll class advertised in the local newspaper in 1978, Connie was just going to make that one doll. Now, 29years and several thousand dolls later, Connie is still making dolls, teaching classes and seminars, and exhibiting at many doll shows across the country. Even after all these years the excitement of finishing a new sample doll made from a new mold purchase is just as exhilarating as ever. Connie has found that the joys of doll making know no boundaries. She teaches many two and three day seminars throughout the year in Savanna and others are scheduled at various shops across the country. Connie has been awarded Master of Dollmaking, Grand Master of Dollmaking and 1997 "Millie" winner plus various top awards throughout the country at numerous competitions.
