* 1939 Belmont Tube Radio ~ Model 636 *
For your consideration is a beautiful example of a fully restored 1939 Belmont Bakelite Tube Radio, Model 636. The classic Art Deco designed swirl bakelite cabinet is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips and has been taken through my ALL Natural polishing procedure(no artificial or enhancers used). One look at the last photo and it will give you an idea of how much work went into this cabinet to bring it back to life once again. The complete restoration took over two weeks to complete with many details added such as: New reproduction dial cover from my mold shop,custom backing & label with the original loop antenna attached on the inside, all 5 new station tabs for the preset buttons added as well as the clear plastic covers over them,new dial bulb(looks great lit up),several tubes replaced,capacitors replaced,new plug/cord,all moving parts lubricated as well as the pushbutton mechanism(all preset pushbuttons work great),full alignment for optimal reception(radio sounds great with excellent reception). The original label on the bottom is fully intact,radio measures 11"wide x 7"tall x 6"deep.
This Belmont model is one of my favorite cabinet designs and with the wrap-around louvers,molded trim & detailing,preset buttons,& tuning knob on the right side...it surely sets this radio apart from other cabinet designs(of course I would expect nothing less from Belmont). ** RESTORATION PROCESS **
1. ELECTRONICS- Chassis cleaned,tubes checked and replaced as needed,capacitors & electrolytic's replaced, new plug/cord & dial bulb replaced,potentiometer's lubricated,alignment checked, dial string & other misc.parts replaced if needed,audio tested for a minimum of 12 hours.
2. WOOD CABINET RADIOS- I specialize in Custom antique refinishing...including Antique hand-rubbed Oil,Satin, Lacquer,& Tung Oil Varnish top coats.My experience in Antique restoration includes Victorian,Americana,Consoles,Tombstone,Cathedral,& bakelite radios.
3. BAKELITE CABINET'S- I have 20 years experience in professional polishing & Antique Restoration. Bakelite cabinets are taken through a 3 step process that takes a minumum of 12 hours and up to 2 days depending on the condition of the cabinet. No Coatings are used on the bakelite to enhance the finish.I do not use Poly's, Wax,Simi-chrome,Novus,Glay-Zit,Sprays,etc,in my restoration process. All detailed cleaning,polishing,& buffing is done by hand just the way I was taught by a professional polisher 25 years ago. This process takes many long hours and great attention to detail, but the outcome is worth it because the result is a beautifully restored cabinet with nothing but a pure bakelite shine!
