Mother's Day is almost here and Desk Dave's Featherweight Factory is proud to announce this very special sweetheart of a beautiful 1948 Original Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine. Don't miss out on a long awaited dream machine for mom, yourself, or a very special someone!
With the popularity of Singer Featherweight sewing machines soaring, it is a privilege and delight to own one of these exclusive sewing machines. If you have had a beautiful Featherweight on your wish list, this Featherweight is the one for you.
Completely original, this 221 will allow even the most discriminating enthusiast to savor the rare luxury of this true standard. Fastidiously serviced to ensure optimum performance and longevity of service, this Featherweight has been tuned, lubricated, and tested to ensure satisfaction. Rarely does the opportunity arise to own a sewing machine of this calibre, but now opportunity knocks - and is here.
The Singer Model 221 Featherweight is one of the most desirable sewing machines ever built by the Singer Sewing Machine Company, due to its lightweight construction and superb versatility. A seamstress may use this machine for sewing, quilting, dressmaking, alterations, embroidery, decorative stitching, bias seams, French seams, tucking, plaiting, appliques, applying buttons, making buttonholes, darning, binding, ruffling, gathering, edging, hemming, piping, and creating all kinds of crafts and gifts from the heart.
Made in Clydebank, Scotland, UK, (the motor is 110V for American households) this Featherweight's serial number is EE861981, which dates this Lovely Lady of 59 years to December 28, 1948.
The Featherweight is a precision belt driven, low shank, rotary hook sewing machine, which uses Class 221/301 bobbins and 15 X 1 needles (still readily available today at your local fabric store.) Its weight is minimal, making it portable and being carried to quilting bees and sewing circles a breeze. It also functions and displays beautifully, and can be set up on any desk or table. The bed extension enhances its overall performance and enables one to hem and accomplish piecework or patchwork in a snap.
The machine head is in beautiful condition with no rust nor dents, and its majestic "Celtic Chain" decals display brilliantly; however, there is some slight fading on a small area of the front decal at the machine's edge (please see photos.) The only other blemishes are some expected pin and usage marks visible from certain angles which remain well hidden within the bed's glassy and high-gloss finish.
The machine runs quietly, smoothly, strongly, and well, it does not jump nor skip, and the stitches come out neat and holding proper tension. The bobbin assembly and case are present and seated snug and firm as they should be. The wiring and cords are also in superb condition with no play, breaks, nor exposed electrical parts.
The Singer Featherweight operates in forward and reverse and lets one choose from 6 to 30 stitches per inch, as well as extra fine satin stitching. It is capable of a basic straight stitch on its own; however, a zigzag attachment may be purchased from your local Singer Representative or On-Line to allow one to create many more combinations of decorative stitchery (unfortunately, a zig zag attachment is not included in this auction.)
This beautiful machine comes with the accessories and accompaniments below:
The brand new carrying case is in immaculate and never been used condition, making it an outstanding storage compartment and tote for the safe keeping of your sewing machine.
An exquisite gift for your special mom, collectors, and sewing enthusiasts.
