A delightful pair of Victorian era glass vases. Each alike with a white body with a fanciful scene applied in sepia transfer process than comprehensively hand coloured in fired on enamels. A raised enamel in white is also applied as shown in pips around the top of the vases- and to highlights in the scene itself. This firing process has ensured these scenes have survived in excellent indeed superior condition for vases of this type. The decoration to this pair in both unusual in terms of subject and in quality. Pieces like this are typically English or Bohemian- and I will suggest Bohemian given the somewhat Alpine terrain and architecture. These are quite beautiful items and would look wonderful at each end of a mantel or shelf and are ready to be returned to service as excellent large vases for floral display.
