Beautiful, working, 1940's Emerson catalin radio. This is a catalin radio, and the swirling is so marvelous, and complex.  The material is so intriguing because these swirls of the autumn's falling leaves in various tones of browns, tan, yellow, and burnt orange are seen with a three dimensionality.  Unlike bakelite, which is topical in it's swirling, the catalin swirling has great depth.  The catalin material is semi translucent, which allows you to see into the material to an extent, giving it a great depth and presence. Excellent luster, no chips in cabinet, photo shows reflections of the backdrop blanket, no marring. There is a stressline that is in the lower center of the plastic back.  Catalin, though gorgeous, over the 60+ years shrinks to a small degree relative to metals and other plastics.  This is why so many catalin radios are cracked.  In this instance, the catalin didn't crack,  though the plastic back, developed a stressline through the center two bottom most open cooling vents. This back is many times no longer present and when it is, it usually is all cracked up around the mounting holes, this one presents very well. Great deco moderne styling-  it is a departure for early postwar American radio designs. Impeccibly clean, inside and out, it will pass the white glove test. Unit has the original ivory knobs, grille cloth (which is excellent, jsut hard to photograph behiond the waffle grille) and plastic back.  The photo of the back shows the reflection of the power cord. The dial scale lens is an exact reproduction- there is no marring, just a reflection of me and my camera. The dial scale is excellent, and the color and brightness tells you this was in a very dry place. Plays loudly, clearly with good tone, no hum. Has good, safe, power cord and working dial light. The radio measures 11 inches long, 7 high, 6 deep.  As with all my radios, the luster and sheen on the bakelite is natural, exhibiting the original characteristics of the bakelite when newly made....no coatings (permanent or temporary), sprays, or oils are used to glam it up. All radios sold have had preventative electrical maintainence, so that they perform as well in the foreseeable future...as they do when you first get them.  I stand behind the components I've repaired, parts and labor- for 90 days.  After that- free labor for 6 months.  Why would you bother with someone who says they've "restored" the radio and then tell you you are buying "as is"?  The insides of my radios are given the same attention as the outsides.

Celebrating ten years on ebay- Selling beautiful, working radios on ebay continuously, since 1998.

Each radio is packed in a way to guarantee that you won't be filing an insurance claim. Buyer pays shipping, $23 insured Fed Ex ground service in US, more elsewhere. Paypal.com is accepted, please see other radios for sale- this week and Philco wood set in my no reserve auctions, and other bakelite, catalin, and wood sets and in my new fixed price, buy it now, ebay store.
