ABOUT US
Co-op & Hester Apiaries (C&H Apiaries) is located in south Georgia near the capture site where Jefferson Davis was captured by Union Troops May 10th 1865. We are about 185 miles south of Atlanta in a little town called Irwinville. So small that our mail address is Ocilla, the county seat for Irwin County.
This is QUEEN REARING BEE COUNTRY ! We enjoy a sub tropical climate with generally mild winters. This gives us natures help for queen and package bee production. Our honey crops are, Red Maple, Spring Ty Ty, Tupelo, Palmetto, Popular, Galberry, Wild Flower, Cotton, and Golden Rod. The nectar flows here are short but sweet.
C & H Apiaries was founded by TL Hester and a group of local professional beekeepers all working together and under the blanket of the same State Inspector. It takes true Beekeepers to produce quality for the bee industry. Not employees that do not know how to light a smoker or which end of a hive tool to hold on to. We produce queen cells, virgin queens, mated queens, package bees, and also manufacture beekeeping equipment. Everything we do is done in the same manner as if we were using it ourselves. This includes our Beehaul Trailers, Migratory Pallets, Package Bee Cages, Bottom Boards, Hive Bodies, Hester Frames/Foundation, Inner Covers, Top Covers, Hester's 4X4 mating nucs and Mini Frames, Wax Cell Cup Jigs, Grafting Equipment, and just about anthing to do with the Beekeeping Industry. Wheather you are big beekeeper or just getting started, we are willing and able to fill your needs. We espically enjoy helping new beekeepers get off on the right track. If you need to know something about bees, just ask us. If I do not know the answer to your question, I will find someone who does. You and your needs are important to us. ABOUT OUR QUEENS
Our Breeder Queens are pure Minnesota Hygenic artifically inseminated. These girls lay wall to wall, winter well, are not bad to swarm, easy to work, and are the leaders in honey production. See the chart in my pictures and visit the above link. Over the years I have tried them all, and I have never owned a queen, that could come close to out performing the Minnesota's. We have converted several customers that will testify to that. Another major factor in quality queens is the breeder. Breeders that over work nurse bees by placing to many grafts in a hive cause the young larve not to be fed properly. This is a major reason for queens not being properly developed. In our operation, once we make the graft, we put less than half the number of grafts in our starter hives as do other queen producers. In addition, our starter hives are fed heavily, boiling over with bees, and are eager to produce queens because we took out their original queen a day before the graft. After 24 hours the started cells are moved into a finisher hive. This is a double deep strong hive. The queen is in the lower chamber under a queen excluder. The cell bar frame is placed in the top chamber with loads of bees and fresh brood. Even though the hive has a queen in the bottom, the bees will go ahead and finish the cells because they have already been started. This method divides the work load. The starters start the cells and the finishers finish them up.
