Benjamin Champney Floral Oil on Canvas

Benjamin Champney (1817-1907) oil on canvas of finely detailed hollyhocks. Sight size is 14" X 39". I would guess the frame is original based on the appearance of the brittle backing paper on the reverse. Signed lower right "B Champney", the painting has one small repair patch on the back which is invisible from the front. The painting would benefit from a professional cleaning to restore some of the background colors. The frame needs no work with only very minor household wear showing. This painting has hung for many years in a smoke-free, climate-controlled home on a wall free from direct sunlight.

Champney's paintings of landscapes have sold at auction for up to $50,000. His florals and still life works sell for considerably less so I have set a reasonable purchase price and an opportunity for the interested buyer to make a bona fide offer.
