The Schneider-Betavaron is the first zoom lens to be developed for enlargers and printers. It throws open new applications in the field of enlarging - applications which were often impossible to realize satisfactorily with conventional enlarging lenses. While giving excellent image quality, it simplifies using the enlarger and considerably reduces the amount of time and effort required to make enlargements.
Having once adjusted the Betavaron on the enlarger, the relative positions of the negative, the positive and the enlarging lens remain fixed. By simply moving the rotating ring for the magnification, the desired enlargement can be set or the negative be cropped easily and quickly to fil the print format. Sharpness and image quality are maintained throughout the entire magnification range of the lens. The design principle used in the Betavaron thus means not only that enlarging becomes simpler and more rational, but also that a much simpler design can be adopted for the enlarger itself. When enlarging 35mm negatives or making sectional enlargements from larger negative formats it is now possible to concentrate entirely on creating the picture without having to bother about the usual problems such as moving the enlarger and focusing.
