This is a New Testament only.

The aim of the translator, James Moffatt, a doctor of divinity, was to present the Bible in effective, intelligible English. No translation of an ancient classic can be quite intelligible unless the reader is sufficiently acquainted with its environment to understand some of its flying allusions and characteristic metaphors. The translator felt that ought to be done at the present day to offer the unlearned a transcript of the Biblical literature as it lies in the light thrown upon it by modern research. A real translation is in the main an interpretation. To the best of his ability he has tried to be exact and idiomatic.

The Moffatt New Testament was first published in 1913. The Title Page identifies this as the “New Edition, Revised.” I could not find any date anywhere, but this book is obviously very old. I did not find any writing of any kind in the text except a dedication in pencil on the flyleaf. The binding is in great shape considering the book is obviously old. It is a small volume, 6-1/2 X 4-1/2 inches. The cover is flexible cloth and shows some minor signs of handling wear. I bought this book while on vacation in England many years ago. It is published by Hodder and Stoughton.

I have been a collector of English Bible translations for many years, but I am downsizing and selling all but a very few translations that I actively use. It is my hope that these Bibles will be put to better use than taking up shelf space. I have about 43 yet to list!
