Billy J Kramer signed cassette This item is a Billy J Kramer autographed cassette tape, signed "Billy J Kramer" in black ink. The item was signed at the Brentwood Theatre, Essex in 1997. The tape is a copy of Billy J Kramer Greatest Hits, which includes versions of all the John Lennon and Paul McCartney songs that Billy J originally recorded with The Dakotas - tape is in VG Condition. This is a 100% genuine original autograph (NOT a reprint like many of the so-called "signed" items on eBay). A rare and collectable piece of Beatles related autographed memorabilia - No Reserve. Billy J. Kramer (born William Howard Ashton, 19th August 1943, in Bootle, Liverpool) is a British Invasion / Merseybeat singer. In sharing Brian Epstein's NEMS management with The Beatles, he enjoyed access to the songwriting talents of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The performing name Kramer was chosen at random from a telephone directory. It was John Lennon's suggestion that the "J" be added to the name to further distinguish him by adding a 'tougher edge'. Kramer turned professional but his then backing band, The Coasters, were less keen, so Brian Epstein sought out the services of a Manchester based band, The Dakotas. A recording deal with EMI was set and both acts signed to Parlophone Records under producer George Martin. Once the Beatles broke through, Kramer was offered the chance to cover Lennon and McCartney's 'Do You Want To Know A Secret?'. The single 'Do You Want to Know a Secret?', backed by an otherwise unreleased Lennon/McCartney song, 'I'll Be On My Way', was a number two UK hit in 1963. After this impressive breakthrough another Lennon/McCartney pairing 'Bad To Me' b/w 'I Call Your Name' reached number one. The next single, yet another Lennon/McCartney composition, 'I'll Keep You Satisfied', ended the year at a respectable number four. The three big hits penned by Lennon and McCartney suggested that Kramer might always remain the Beatles' shadow, unless he tried something different, so despite being advised against it, he recorded 'Little Children', which became his second chart topper and biggest hit. This was followed up with Lennon and McCartney's 'Bad To Me' which reached number nine. His second and last UK single of 1964; yet another Lennon/McCartney cast-off 'From A Window', also became a Top Ten hit. Postage/Shipping:
