According to the Publisher, "Black memorabilia has been, and is still being made today, by both Black and White artisans. In order for an item to be considered a Black collectible, it must be made in the imagery of a Black person or it must be directly attributed to a Black artisan. Most handmade articles were mostly made prior to the early 1900s. Folk art pieces dominated the earlier years, including such items as wooden dolls and toys, furnishings, single portraits, paintings of slaves and Black farm workers in the fields, nannies caring for the children of White families, on occasion, a Black family in front of a small cabin, and a large quantity of Black rag dolls, commonly called "mammy" and "pickaninny" dolls. The American market had fully opend up between the early 1900s and 1950s, the bulk of the Black collectibles being made was comparable with those made earlier, with tremendous increase in production." This book is filled with color photographs with detailed descriptions and values.

This is a BRAND NEW BOOK!!! It has a bit of wear around the edges, otherwise would sell in your local store for $19.95.
