South Dakota - Black Hills Placenticeras Fossil

   Here is an amazing Placenticeras Fossil in matrix.  This Fossil is from the Cretaceous period some 30 to 60 million years ago.  This particular fossil was found in the western edge of the Black Hills in the Pierre Shale formation.  It weighs 5 lbs. and 6 ozs. and is 6 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 1 1/2" in thickness with a matrix measuring 9 1/2" x 3 1/2".  This wonderful natural creation has great suture lines and a superb polish.
