So this summer (11 June to 17 August) I'm participating in a program called Bike and Build (www.bikeandbuild.org). Along with 30 or so other people, I'll be biking from Jacksonville, FL to San Francisco. In each town we stop in, we'll be giving presentations about the affordable housing crisis in the U.S. We also stop various times during the summer and help build houses, including spending a week in New Orleans helping with reconstruction. Bike and Build also helps out the affordable housing cause by raising money for it - each rider on each route has to raise $4000 before departure. The money goes to various housing organizations and youth-led service projects through a grant process, and of course, partially goes towards funding the Bike and Build organization. In order to raise money, I have asked businesses to donate products so I can auction them off. So, in essence, the proceeds from these sales go to charity, and the products are non-refundable. Note: If you are interested in donated to Bike and Build, but not in the backpack, you can simply go to the website and choose "Figueroa, Karen" as your rider. I appreciate ALL contributions.
