" Blood Simple "
In the first film of brothers Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, M. Emmett Walsh plays Visser, an unscrupulous private eye hired by Texas bar owner Marty (Dan Hedaya) to murder Marty's faithless wife Abby (Frances McDormand) and her paramour, Ray (John Getz), one of Marty's employees. But Visser is no more up-front with Marty than with anyone else; he makes some slight modifications of the original plan so that it better serves his own best interests. After a surprise double-cross and the murder of one of the important players, matters spiral out of control, and the plot gyrates through a complicated string of darkly humorous events. False assumptions, guilt, and fear all lead to a frantic attempt to conceal evidence and the heart-pounding, irony-filled denouement. Blood Simple was re-released in the summer of 2000 with a digitally-remastered soundtrack and — at the Coens' behest — a few minutes of dialogue trimmed.

General Comments & Philosophy :
As a rule, we do not list items that are beaten up, or in anything less than excellent condition...Some items are rare, and out of print, and we make allowances for that, if that is the case we will indicate that We always check out, clean up items.....Primarily, we buy stock as if they were for ourselves, and sold to ourselves...Please, no personal checks, it slows the process too much, and we like to get things in the mail FAST...Do NOTE: We are NOT responsible for lost or damaged items… Please Note : We will not assume responsibility for items lost, or stolen or damaged after it leaves our hands. We wrap with great care, but we cannot take responsibility after that. Receipts are available for all items sent and paid for in advance..
Our Feedback Approach : First, let us say, we LOVE to do nothing more than give positive feedback ! There is nothing we prefer, than a happily completed transaction. But experience has shown us, that due to a small percentage of capricious buyers, we are compelled now, to WAIT until we have received positive feedback FIRST. Most of the negatives we have gotten have been after we graciously left positive words only to be whacked later. So, to insure a positive experience, we ask our buyers to step up to the plate first, and we promise to comply, ASAP, usually the same day. If there IS some outstanding issue, or disappointment, we would hope you would ask questions, and see if there is a reasonable solution. The last thing we want are disgruntled Ebay buyers ! Also, before buying, be sure to check our impeccable feedback, the pulse of our success here. With the exception of a handful of demented shut-ins, our feedback would be perfect...We pride ourselves on taking care of people, and bringing a sale to a successful conclusion....
We also want to mention, we take great care and pride in packaging, and preparing an item for shipping. We wrap as well as possible; and we never 'sit' on an item, it goes out immediately, and most clients see their item in three or four days. In particular, with international clientele, we take special consideration. Do look at our feedback for confirmation of our words. Every sale is important to us, and we take that extra step to bring a sale to a highly successful conclusion....Please note: If this item is new, and is returned, in an opened state, for whatever reason, we reserve the right to impose a restocking, diminished value fee at our discretion, usually $ 5.00 - $ 10.00. Finally : If you are an international bidder, please read this carefully: Due to the number of people who incorrectly bid on items, not realizing that they are, or are NOT PAL, or NTSC standard, based on the error they make, we cannot be responsible for this, when the items are clearly marked on all auctions. Be sure, in the heat of the moment, that you are bidding on a movie that can facilitate playing later on ! We don't want disillusioned, or frustrated winners. We will NOT issue returns or refunds on this error any longer. We thank you for your indulgence. We reserve the right to recall, cancel any bids from people with negative, or low feedback. We alert zero feedback people first, but reserve the right to cancel at any time. Good luck !

| Movie description | When a bar owner discovers that one of his employees is having an affair with his wife, a complex web of deceit and double crosses ensues in a small Texas town. The Coen brothers' first picture is an intricately plotted film noir filled with surprises at each turn. The cast, largely unkown at the time, includes Dan Hedaya as the cuckolded bar owner, Frances McDormand as the cheating wife, John Getz as the adultering bartender, and the fabulously creepy M. Emmett Walsh as the slimy, sweaty private detective who should not be trusted. The film is a marvel to experience; director of photography Barry Sonnenfeld has created stunning compositions filled with open spaces, and the sound--from the slightest footsteps or dripping water to a sudden shotgun blast--reverberates ominously, as if it is a character unto itself. Directed by Joel Coen and cowritten by Joel and his brother Ethan, BLOOD SIMPLE is an eerie testament to the limitless possibilities of low-budget filmmaking.

| | Notes | BLOOD SIMPLE is the debut of filmmaking brothers Joel and Ethan Coen. The pair have collaborated on several films since the making of BLOOD SIMPLE; they include RAISING ARIZONA (1987), MILLER'S CROSSING (1990) and BARTON FINK (1991). Ethan and Joel write the screenplays for their films together, then Ethan produces the film and Joel directs it.
The Coens consider BLOOD SIMPLE the first of their "hayseed" trilogy; the other two are RAISING ARIZONA and O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?
In 1984 BLOOD SIMPLE was shown at both the New York Film Festival and the Independent Feature Film Market. The film appeared on several prestigious lists of top ten films in 1985, including Time Magazine, USA Today and The Washington Post. It was also honored as one of the year's best pictures by The National Board of Review. It was released to theaters nationally the following year.
BLOOD SIMPLE was the winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in its inaugural year.
The director's cut released in July 2000 has no additional footage; in fact, it is actually slightly shorter than the original. Ethan Coen explained it by saying, "The idea is, we've taken out some of the boring parts."
The movie was shot in DuArt color in 48 days on location in Austin, Texas.
The first voice heard on Meurice's answering machine is that of Holly Hunter.
The Coens wrote the role of the private detective specifically for character actor extraordinaire M. Emmet Walsh. At one point, Walsh's character was going to be known as Todor Zivkov Jr.
Roderick Jaynes, the editor, is a fictional person that the Coen brothers invented as both a pseudonym and a prank. They edited the film themselves.
Director and co-writer Ethan Coen is married to Frances McDormand, who won an Oscar for her starring role in the Coen brothers' film FARGO.
Joel Coen is credited as an assistant editor on Sam Raimi's cult classic THE EVIL DEAD (1983). Raimi is somewhat of a mentor to the Coens.
BLOOD SIMPLE was Director of Photography Barry Sonnenfeld's first film; he went on to direct such hits as MEN IN BLACK and GET SHORTY.
Cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld later went on to become a director. THE ADDAMS FAMILY (1992) was his first directorial assignment.
Prior to making films, Ethan Coen was a statistical typist at Macy's.
