This 18" necklace is a relatively understated and elegant use of the traditional colors of Mardi Gras: purple, green, and gold. The meta-perversity of that concept may be nearly mindboggling. The purple and green bits are fairly easy to spot-- grape-purple transparent druks, accented at intervals with larger rounds of fiber-optic catseye in a delicate off-green reminiscent of, well, cats' eyes. The third color is tucked away nearly subliminally as a sunspray mix of seed-bead spacers. Fiber-optic catseye is a synthetic composite made by fusing together long parallel threads of glass. While it's very pretty, it's not a natural stone. It's UNNATURAL, I tell you. Most heinous. The other beads are straightforward Czech glass, from the region historically known as Bohemia. I've hand-strung all of them onto 20lb-test gel-spun polymer, a high-tech fiber that's stronger than steel but drapes like silk without ever rusting or rotting. The endcaps and trigger/split-ring clasp are sterling silver. Please check my other listings to see more pretties, and thanks for looking! :) |
