"Gleanings from Boston newspapers relating to painting, engraving, silversmiths, pewterers, clockmakers, furniture, pottery, old houses, costume, trades and occupations". As part of the research being carried out in the first decades of the 20th century on early American craftsmen, several members of the Walpole Society spent hundreds of hours scouring colonial newspaper files and other sources for notices regarding craftsmen. George Francis Dow, an Americanist-Extraordinaire and enthusiastic collector and author on many things New England, undertook this exhaustive study, which remains today as an important resource.
