Booths Coloured Ming – Tea Caddy or Tobacco Jar

You are bidding on a very rare and sought after hand painted coloured Booths Ming Jar. Unsure of the exact use, but suspect it was a tea caddy or tobacco jar. Very collectable and very stunning.

The pattern on the jar shows an oriental scene with people in the foreground (a fisherman offering his catch to a couple), and a landscape with shrubs in the background. There is also a floral pattern around the top of the jar and the lid that is coloured blue/pink/red/green. There is also a fair amount of gilt detail.

The condition of the jar is very good, and amazingly enough the lid is still present, however the lid has been repaired - see photo. There is also faint age crazing.

The backstamp/marking reads:

CHINA MING
MADE ENGLAND

The jar measures approximately:

13.5 cm tall (5.25“) from base to top of lid

7.5 cm wide (3“) at widest point

7 cm deep (2.75“) at deepest point
