Boss Ph-3 Electric Guitar Pedal  is a remarkable and  can produce innumerable sounds. The possibilities are endless, which gives the user more “bang for the buck” as opposed to an MXR Phase 90 which limits the player as to what they can do with the pedal.  Whether you want a vintage phaser sound or indescribable space-aged sounds, Boss has incorporated many different stages and modes of the phase effect.  In addition to the standard up and down cycles that are affiliated with most phasers, the new PH-3 can produce entirely upward or downward moving sounds through its new Rise and Fall effects. There is also 4, 8, 10, and 12-stage phasers, plus a Step effect that can be adjusted by a simple twist of the knob on the far right of the PH-3 labeled “Stage.”  All of these different modes can be controlled by a built in tap-tempo that can be activated by depressing the stomp pad for three seconds and tapping your foot on the stomp box to the beat that you want the PH-3 to synchronize to.  There is also an option to plug in an external expression pedal (not provided) for those who want complete control over the unit.  The other knobs (rate, depth, and res) give the user complete control over how deep they want the phase to sound or how fast they want the unit to go through its cycles.  I have found in the past that I could easy spend hours exploring the sonic possibilities of the PH-3, and there were still more sounds that I could
