This is a hand made rubbing of Sir William Fitzralph, created with metallic gold and red wax crayon on a special black rag paper. This rubbing is 20 1/2" high X 10 " wide . Sir William's original brass is dated 1323 and can be found in Pedmarsh in the County of Essex in England. The rubbing shows the first introduction of plate armour after the purely mail armour previously used and is said to be one of the few, fine, very early military brasses.
This is a hand made rubbing of Sir John D'Aubernoun, created with metallic gold wax crayon on a special black rag paper. This rubbing is 20 1/2" high X 10 " wide . Sir John's original brass is dated 1277 and can be found in Stoke D'Aubernon in the County of Surrey in England. This is the earliest surviving 'brass' in England - the original is over six feet high; his arms are born on the shield. Sir John wears chain mail under a linen surcoat. Note the stitching on the sword belt so clearly shown. He wears genouilleres to protect his knees and he carries a lance as well as a shield.
Rubbings like this one, taken from a miniature plate, hand made by one of our craft instructors, make unusual and interesting gifts. I will send it to you rolled up in a strong postal tube. It can be hung either from wooden dowels or matted and framed under glass. Shipping and handling charges include insurance cover during transit. I invite you to visit my eBay Store, "The Wonders Of Britain" where I have other rubbings for sale as well as many historical items brought over from Britain. If you are interested in buying more than one rubbing I would be pleased to arrange a combined shipping charge if the rubbings can be rolled in the same mailing tube.
