The 29th Punjabis was an infantry regiment of the British Indian Army. It could trace its origins to the 29th Bengal Native Infantry formed in 1857. Over the years it was known by a number of different names the 29th Bengal Native Infantry 1861–1864, the 29th (Punjab) Bengal Native Infantry 1864–1885, the 29th (Punjab) Bengal Infantry 1857–1901 and following the Kitchener reforms of the Indian Army when the names of the presidencies were dropped they became the 29th Punjab Infantry 1901. The regiment was involved in the Second Anglo-Afghan War. To honour the visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales to Indian they took part in the Rawalpindi Parade 1905. During the Great War they were part of the Indian Expeditionary Force C and served in British East Africa in an Imperial Service Infantry Brigade and the attached to the 75th Division.

After the war the Indian Government conducted another reform of the army doing away with single battalion regiments and forming large regiment with four or five battalions and a training battalion always known as the 10th battalion.[1] This was the fate of the 29th Punjabis in 1922, they became the 10th Battalion, 15th Punjab Regiment between 1922–1947. Post independence they were one of the regiments allocated to the Pakistan Army. [2]
