This very difficult to find sword is in exceptionally
nice overall condition, with no indications of abuse, damage or
neglect. This example is made by the world-famous Wilkinson Sword
Company (blade marked 'WSC') and is profusely marked with the usual
inspection and War Department markings. It is also marked to
indicate a fascinating service history with a variety of Canadian
units. Represented on this sword are the unit abbreviations for the
Canadian Composite Corps (CCC), Canadian Provisional Army Service
Corps (CPASC) and finally the Field Ambulance Unit (FAU). The CCC
and CPASC markings have been struck over, indicating subsequent
re-issue, the final un-struck marking is the Field Ambulance marking,
which would have been this sword's final unit of service before being
withdrawn as obsolete. The scabbard (also in fine condition) is also
well marked with the Mole (another famous maker and correct for this
pattern sword) as well as the typical inspectors marks and Canadian
governmental broad arrow C. Also present on this sword are it's
original leather slings – a feature as rare as the sword itself.
When writing about the 1905 Staff Sergeant's sword in his book
'British Military Swords 1786 – 1912', Harvey Withers states “This
sword is rarely seen and numbers produced are likely to have been
relatively small.” A choice example of a fascinating sword that
will appeal to the general sword collector, Wilkinson aficionado or
Canadian military history enthusiast. High
