Tinned Dripping Spread

 

One of the more obscure culinary highlights of WW 2 military rations…

 

These small tins of high-fat liver sausage-like spread were issued both inside the “Meat” portion of the 24-Hour Ration, and individually as additional energy rations. The contents of this small tin with the proper late-war green label contain the one food we hear very little about in today’s military rations – fat and ground sausage filler. It is a brown/pink-looking spread that goes well on crackers.

 

This ration is listed as a standard item for the Para’s small pack in the excellent book “Tommy” by David Gordon.
