Unique & One of a Kind ~~ Just Like You Are To the Lord

This is a large and stunning piece of mosaic art, constructed with the utmost loving care, using beautiful china tiles, all hand-cut from Noritake, Haviland Limoges, Nikko and Schumann fine porcelain china. Crown Potteries semi-vitreous china accents the semi-circles on the bottom of the cross . The sides are done with antique Limoges white porcelain rectangles. All of the tiles used in this cross are in excellent condition, meaning that there is very little (if any) color fading or scratches.

The cross is two feet high and approximately 16 inches wide.

Each tile handcut and placed one at a time with particular attention to preserving what I call "the integrity of the grout lines." There is no random tile on this cross and no tile haphazardly placed. I am all about precision and perfection and do not rush through my pieces or compromise in tile quality, cut or placement.

My husband applied the hardware to the back so you can hang it on the wall with just a nail (he used those picture things that look like teeth). The back of the cross is felted.

My crosses are "Built To Last ~~ Guaranteed until He comes again" ... unless of course you drop it and it breaks from that experience. Please read the column with the white text for more information about my techniques and philosophy.

about the artist

Debra Roberts has devoted full-time efforts for eight years to perfecting the art of china cutting and mosaic design. She is self-taught and has a love of fine vintage/antique floral china and a natural eye for color and design.

Each piece is uniquely created with an original design. Attention to detail is evident in each piece as you examine the integrity of the grout lines and the uniformity in the cutting of the floral tiles and the complexity of the background (filler) tile shapes.

Debra’s pieces are a labor of love and quality is not sacrificed in order to finish a piece quicker. Each tile is hand-cut as perfectly as possible to fit the specified area and individually glued in place. Debra’s hand-cut tiles are an artistic signature, and she does not cut her plates with saws. Debra rarely uses stained glass as it is her feeling that it does not complement the antiquity of the china as well as 22k gold and white and colored porcelain.

She has mastered grouting techniques that reveal each tile fully without the tile ending up floating on top of the grout lines. Debra uses sanded polymer grout for its strength and durability. Each piece is sealed with Armocrete, which lasts for approximately 15 years on indoor pieces and should be reapplied thereafter.

The quality of the china and the patient and deliberate construction come together to create a lasting piece of art. Her pieces will be passed on as family treasures.
