BUDDY EBSEN'S "CIVIL WAR RELICS"
Please take this into consideration if you are considering a purchase:
The value of this listed auction is that it was once the property of Buddy Ebsen presented by a certain group of important people to him in appreciation for his plays and interest in The Civil War, not in the value of the objects themselves. The four loose objects may or may not have been part of the presentation, but were once Buddy Ebsen's property in his study and objects which he handled. All these objects which are shown here, whether they are authentic, or NOT authentic, were part of his personal archive.
One item shown, the Confederate button shown loose next to the ball in the 4th photo is NOT authentic. The button with the word "militia" on it is suspect, due to the patina. The rest of the items shown are most likely authentic Civil War relics.
Authentic Civil War relics, such as these, are very common and are not worth much in terms of dollar value.
Thank you.
This is one of many rare and one of kind Buddy Ebsen items we will be putting up in the future for auction, so please bookmark us. Buddy Ebsen is perhaps best-known in modern times for his role as Jed Clampett in the hit TV series The Beverly Hillbillies. Also as roles as Davy Crockett's sidekick Georgie Russell, and as Barnaby Jones, the famous detective.
A Certificate of Assurance (with a photograph of the item printed on it) comes with this unique item which has been signed by Dorothy Ebsen.
Thank you, John Anthony Miller II. at Phantom Bookshop in Ventura, CA. ___________________________________________________________________________
What may not be known by many is that the screen legend Buddy Ebsen was an avid reader of everything pertaining to the U.S. Civil War and had an extensive library of such material and volumes about Abraham Lincoln. Certainly Abraham Lincoln and Buddy Ebsen had many things in common as men.
Here is a small collection of Civil War artifacts (most?) of which were presented to Buddy from several people in 1977 with a small brass plaque on the front. Some of the artifacts are loose and not attaced by wires, and some of the wired artifacts are loose. Here is a list of artifacts:
11 large caliber bullets, one round "bullet", four buttons, a large needle, most of a fork, and a musket gun cleaner, probably 69 calibre (thank you Civilwarcollector for telling me what this item was). Also there is a piece of shrapnel from a large hollow ball which is laid in. An interesting assortment that Buddy had in his Civil War collection.
The value of the items rests in the fact that they were valued possessions of Buddy Ebsen, not in the objects themselves, whether authentic or not.
