Float pens have been charming collectors for nearly 60 years. Each pen has a photo image that floats back and forth or up and down inside a clear window. There was a time when float pens were commonly found at tourist traps, airports, museums, amusement parks and travel plazas, but they have disappeared from many locations. Thank heaven collectors can rely on the Internet for these little gems.

According to Jerry Berg of the Bud Man Quartet... Back in 1969, the marketing/advertising geniuses at Anheuser-Busch introduced a character that was destined to become perhaps the most recognizable symbol of Budweiser in the history of the brand. I'm referring, of course, to that "Dauntless Defender of Quality" --- Bud Man. He quickly became the official mascot of Budweiser and has been used in such varied promotional products as display signs, key chains, inflatable figures, salt & pepper sets, shirts, hats, belt buckles, even costumes. Some six years later the marketing people realized that he would be a natural as a character stein - and that brings us to 1975.

This is a ballpoint pen that features the image of Bud Man floating up/down over a metropolitan cityscape in a clear window full of oil. The caption panel, on the backside of the pen, includes: A picture of Bud Man + 'BUD MAN' '1987 ANHEUSER-BUSCH, INC.' in white, over a light blue panel.

The words 'FloatAbout' do NOT appear on the pen. It is just the hands off my scans mark.
This pen is no longer in production.
NO Bubbles! Window is slightly bowed, but otherwise the condition of this pen is like new.
Made by Eskesen, the premier manufacturer of float pens.
The artwork is in the traditional Photoramic format.
The metal pocket clip is stamped 'DENMARK'.
The color of the pen barrel is opaque red.
Yes, the pen will write and it is refillable. I have the foreign refills available.
This pen is in the Classic Eskesen style.

If you are unfamiliar with Eskesen floaty pens... this is a picture of an Eskesen pen in their classic style.

The top portion of the pen is a clear window where the artwork is displayed. Roll the pen over and the 'caption panel' is on the backside. Classic style pens have a metal pocket clip. The tip and body of the pen are usually in matching colors, but not always. Twist the corrugated tip, at the bottom of the pen, to expose/retract the writing point. I do have refills for this style.
