A SNAP LIGHT BUTANE TORCH I REALLY LIKE And a SOLDERING PAD
I have recommended folks go to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and get a torch like the Lenk (the well used yellow one in the background) and NOT waste money on the cheap and dangerous "Pencil Butane Torches" that are everywhere on Ebay. I have waited and wandered and looked and looked. At last my searches have been rewarded. HERE is a torch, the ORANGE one that is better than my Lenk (the yellow one). This is what you want to buy, and save around 15 bucks off the cost of a poorer torch doing it!! The Snap Light Torch is easier to light, easier to dial up and down and even has an adjustment to go from a pinpoint reducing flame to a brushy oxidizing flame!!! My Lenk has no such flame adjustment. Yep, looks a bit funny and kicks butt!
It is made in China, sad to say. I wish our country would get back to the great manufacturing engine it once was. On the bright side YOU and I can make things, micro-manufacture whatever it is we do and take back our future!
Because it was made for us Americans it came with a bunch of pictures on use. This was NOT HELPFUL, though if you are limited to reading pictures it would have to do. I HAVE INCLUDED A SHEET OF INSTRUCTIONS AND TIPS. It has 30 times the info!! (Ahh, the benefits of education! )
THIS COMES WITH MY HIGH QUALITY SOLDERING PAD, REGULAR SIZE. I will be getting a picture of the combo sometime in the future, but if you look at the extended kit you will see it in the base for all the other items. It is an 11x 13 fine bonded silica, absolutely flameproof slab. The pad is a very poor conductor of heat so you can pick it up while adjacent material or metal is red hot. It makes for safe working with hot items and you will end up wondering how you ever got along without it.
A perfect combo and 8 bucks of the individual price (including the extra shipping)!!
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW!!: this torch does NOT come with butane. Get a can of filtered butane at any hardware store and some drugstores. Filling (it does come with instructions) is simple, just turn it upside down and push the charging container in for about 6 to 10 seconds. Give it a minute or so to stabilize after turning it right side up. Turn the orange top knob about 1/2+ turn. Push the ignitor. It is now lit. It is that simple. The top orange knob changes the gas volume. The black nut on the torch nozzle adjusts the flame style from pinpoint to brushy.
