C 1850 Engraving Print French English Naval Military Battle Ships Nelson. "Representation of the Defeat of a Squadron of French Ships under the Command of Admiral Brueys, by a Squadron of English Ships under the Command of Admiral Nelson of Bay Abukyr on August 1, 1798." Engraved by Fr. Weber. published by S.Tessari & Fr. Weber. Aquatint with etching, with excellent color. Framed to 27.5 x 23". Image is the Battle of Aboukir Bay, better known as the Battle of the Nile. Nelson surprised a French fleet anchored near Alexandria and destroyed it, stranding Napoleon's army in Egypt. The print shows the situation at 10pm, as the magazine of the French flagship 'Orient' exploded, illuminating the scene. Thoughtfully, carefully reframed in recent years. Excellent condition. Two small (1/4") tears along the top near border of image are minor and not immediately noticed. Paper is toned with age, but it does not take away from the piece. Overall an impressive antique aquatint that matches our other listing "c1850 Engraving Print French English Naval Military Battle Ships Earl Howe."
