| I'm launching a series of digital "reprints" on CD of various old musical instruments trade catalogs and other antique music related books and prints and new items similar to this are added to my eBay store all the time. And don't hesitate to ask me if you can't find what you're looking for. There are hundreds of other titles in peparation. Please note that the item in this and my other ebook auctions are reproductions, not originals. |
Here is a reproduction of a Jenkins catalog dated to c. 1935.
PreviewsHere are a few scaled down samples from the ebook. (You can click on the images to view slightly larger versions.)
Please note that the large images above are still much smaller than the ones on the CD. You can click here for a full size scan of one of the pages if you want to see the quality available from the CD. I have have to warn you though: that file is really big and can be slow to load. (That's one of the reasons why I sell this ebook on CD rather than as a download.)

Physical description of the originalThe size is 28.9 cm height and 21.4 cm width. The 144 numbered pages are printed black-and-white on fairly cheap medium heavy paper. Two downpayment application forms printed on blue paper are included, one at the beginning of the catalog, the other at the end. The cover is made from red cardboard and printed in black and gold on outside front and black only on inside front. Back cover is blank. The cataog is center-bound with three staples.
DatingThe catalog itself has no direct dating clues. However, some of the Deagan melodic percussion instruments listed were only manufactured for short time periods:
There is some conflicting evidence here of course but on balance I believe 1935 to be the most likely year for this catalog. The Radio Master could have been marketed as a new model that late but hardly in 1937 and it's possible that the Imperial marimbas were listed as new as late in a 1937 catalog or ad even if they were introduced a year or two earlier, leading to a possible misunderstanding as to when they first appeared. The Hohner piano accordions allow us to establish 1938 as the latest possible date. By 1939 Hohner had changed their U.S. model range.
ContentAs one would expect from the title, the catalog includes brass, woodwind and percussion instruments and equipment. It also offers a wide selection of violins, violas, cellos and double basses and string instrument equipments as well as accordions and harmonicas:- Pages 1-15
