of Massachusetts,
1850
     This is a facsimile reproduction of an extract of a work that was originally published in Washington in 1850. It is Shorey Publication #154, a reprint first published by the Shorey Book Store of Seattle, Washington, in 1967. This is the first facsimile edition, limited to only 100 copies. It has 28 pages (plus 5-page list of Shorey pubs). The title pages states "Speech of the Hon. R. C. Winthrop, of Mass., on the President's Message, Transmitting the Constitution of California: Delivered in Committee of the Whole in the House of Representatives of the United States, May 8, 1850". The speech focuses on the great questions of the day in regards to California becoming a state, and the main subject seems to be the question of slavery.

     Paper wraps measuring 6.75 by 8.75 inches; several minor bumps to edges, price sticker stain to cover, cover crease, tanning and some short tears to edges, clean contents. Condition is Good+.
