Jack London became one of, and perhaps the most successful writer of the turn of the 20th century. Fifty-one of his books, numerous articles and short stories were published, and in addition, materials from his letters and personal journals were published posthumously. His two greatest novels, The Call of the Wild and White Fang —originally intended as companions — are here compiled in one volume.
Call Of The Wild was originally published as a serialized story in the Saturday Evening Post from June 20 to July 18, 1903. It is the story of the adventures of an unusual dog, part St. Bernard, part Scotch shepherd, that is forcibly taken to the Klondike gold fields where he eventually becomes the leader of a wolf pack.
The combination of man and dog against the elements of the then untamed North and the anything-goes adventurous nature of Buck, makes for exciting reading. London draws on his turn of the century experiences during the Gold rush in Alaska showing the important element of the dogs in the life and survival of those adventurers bringing an exciting element to the story. In the frozen north, dogs were as important as people, and London is at his best in describing this relationship through thick and thin.
White Fang, is is a riveting story of the dog-wolf hybrid who is raised first as a wolf and later comes to know the world of dogs and humans. He was three quarters wolf and all fury. Born in a cave, in famine, in the frozen arctic, in a world where the weak died without mercy, where only the swift, the strong, the cunning saw each dawn, such was White Fang's world - until he and his mother were captured by the man-gods.But men and their dogs taught White Fang to hate. He was beaten, abused, attacked. He was bought, sold, tortured, trained to kill in blood sports. Knowing no kindness, he became a mad, lethal, creature of pure rage. Brought to the very brink of his existence, White Fang is eventually lucky enough to experience the one thing that can save him — human love. I am a private collector of art, books, music (10,000 records alone!) and "stuff" and am very picky about what I buy. I don't like surprises when I buy things from auctions any more than you do. I promise everything there is to know about this item is in this description. I also do not subscribe to "grading" as frankly, grading is totally inconsistent and most of the "graders" TRULY have no clue, so I will use plain English if it is OK with you...
*This is a brand new beautiful hardcover leatherbound book, without dust jacket as issued. It is a phenomenal edition, bound in bonded leather with gilt lettering and embellishments to the spine, front covers, and exceptionally ornate decorations to the back cover, which cannot be seen in the picture (reminds me of many of the pictures I saw in the Vatican Museum!) The book has sewn binding with gilt edging and also has a sewn in ribbon place marker. A SUMPTUOUSLY WONDERFUL edition and would make great gift idea! Enjoy!

SHIPPING INFO: Shipping is only $3.85+$1.70 for insurance via media mail or $8.70 for Insured Priority Mail. International will be more. California deliveries will require 8.25% sales tax. PLEASE NOTE: Over the years, I have had a LOT of packages lost by the post office. Apparently their heightened security includes LOSING packages. Insurance is for loss as well as damage and as a result, I am now ONLY SHIPPING packages domestically, insured! Unfortunately, insurance is no longer offered by the US Post Office for international destinations.
Media Mail (once known as 4th class mail) is a special class of postage for books, music, videos and other printed media available within the US and territories. It is far less expensive than Priority Mail, but - it ..... is ........... slooowwwww!!!! Despite USPS claims of 3-9 day delivery times, media mail CAN actually take up to 3 weeks to arrive, and their tracking info is frequently not updated until it actually arrives, making that feature pretty useless! If you want it in a week or less, you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay for Priority Mail which will get it there in 2-3 working days, 99% of the time, but it is more expensive. Basically, the choice is yours, but if you choose media mail, please don't write to me in 5 days asking where your package is, because the post office will have it and most of the time, they don't have a clue! International deliveries all go by Priority Mail and usually arrive within 1-2 weeks.
