CAMPO DEL CIELO Serialized Meteorite Coin-Only 230 Made

23.8 gram, 38mm coin made from Campo del Cielo, a Course Iron Octahedrite meteorite with silicate inclusions first discovered in 1572 by Spanish explorers in Chaco, Argentina. These coins are slightly variable in weight and dimensions because they were produced using real meteoritic material. The listed weight in this description is accurate for this particular coin. The obverse of this coin reads “SPACE COIN”, “CAMPO DEL CIELO” and “IN THE SKIES WE TRUST”. Only 230 of this particular version were ever produced and are serialized on the reverse. They are serialized using the European standard for example 1/1, 1/2, 1/3 up to 1/230. In other words, the first number is always 1 and the second number designates the true serial number. A previous version in which only 400 were produced did not have serial numbers. The meteoritic material these coins were made from has been etched displaying the crystalline structure only found in true meteorites called a “Widmanstatten Pattern.” These coins have proven to be very collectable due to their scarcity!
